AdBlue Guide

VAG TDI SCR system guide

AdBlue Delete and Removal enquiries for Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and Škoda TDI vehicles start with confirming whether SCR is fitted. Not every TDI uses AdBlue, and systems differ by engine, build date and specification. This guide explains warning countdowns, common fault codes and the checks needed before choosing a course of action. Send your registration and postcode to check vehicle details and mobile availability.

01Understanding the service

AdBlue Delete for VAG TDI Vehicles

A software delete is intended to disable SCR functions and associated monitoring; it is not a repair of the underlying hardware. A restart warning can follow a low AdBlue level or a recognised system fault involving pressure, dosing, sensors, wiring or SCR performance. Communication faults are only one possibility. Countdown wording and distance vary, and an SCR warning does not necessarily mean the engine is in reduced-power mode.

  • Record the exact warning and remaining restart distance.
  • Distinguish a low-fluid warning from a system-malfunction warning.
  • Scan the relevant control modules before clearing any codes.
  • Do not assume SCR changes will resolve DPF faults or restore stop-start operation.

AdBlue Removal and Software Changes

Removal commonly refers to an electronic bypass, not necessarily physical removal of SCR equipment. Software changes do not remove crystallised deposits, seal leaks or restore a failed heater. ECU type and software must be identified from the vehicle rather than assumed from its badge or engine capacity. Some 2.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI variants have SCR, while others do not; send your registration for an initial fitment check.

    AdBlue Repair and Diagnostic Checks

Repair begins with a fault scan and checks guided by the manufacturer's test procedure. Depending on the symptoms, these may include fluid condition, leaks, supply pressure, dosing performance, heater operation, wiring and NOx sensor readings. Some pump and heater components are incorporated into a tank module, but NOx sensors, dosing injectors and supply lines are separate parts of the system. Component availability and repair options vary by vehicle; an entire tank should not be assumed necessary without diagnosis.

      Finding the Right AdBlue Fix

The correct fix depends on the fault and supporting test results, not on a code alone. SCR-equipped versions exist within the model ranges below, but this is not a claim that every diesel variant has AdBlue. EA288-family four-cylinder engines and EA897-family V6 engines use different arrangements across their generations, with further variations by model and build date. Send your registration, warning details and any diagnostic report; further vehicle identification may be needed.

      • Audi A3, A4, A6 and Q5: confirm engine and build specification.
      • Volkswagen Golf, Passat, Tiguan and Transporter: check the individual variant.
      • SEAT Leon and Alhambra: SCR fitment depends on version and production date.
      • Škoda Octavia and Superb: confirm the installed emissions equipment.

      Common VAG SCR Fault Codes

These generic code descriptions are starting points, not component diagnoses. Manufacturer-specific wording, subcodes and recorded operating conditions help narrow the cause. A full tank or a 'Check AdBlue' message does not establish which codes will be stored.

      • P20E8: Reductant Pressure Too Low: investigate pressure generation, leaks and related electrical or sensing faults.
      • P204F: Reductant System Performance, Bank 1: a system-level fault requiring further testing.
      • P207F: Reductant Quality Performance: does not by itself prove that the fluid is contaminated.
      • P20EE: SCR NOx Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold, Bank 1: check dosing, sensor plausibility and operating conditions before condemning the catalyst.
      • P2002: Diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency Below Threshold, Bank 1: a DPF-related code, not an SCR diagnosis.

      Ask on WhatsApp
      What is AdBlue Delete?

AdBlue Delete describes a software modification intended to disable SCR dosing and associated monitoring or restart restrictions. It does not repair a failed pump, sensor, heater or catalyst. What is affected depends on the vehicle and software; send your registration so the fitted system can be checked.

      What is AdBlue Removal?

AdBlue Removal is often used to mean an electronic SCR bypass rather than physical removal of the tank and exhaust components. The term alone does not establish what work is included or which warnings would be affected.

What is the difference between AdBlue Delete and AdBlue Repair?

Repair aims to restore SCR operation by diagnosing and correcting the fault. This may involve wiring repairs, an applicable manufacturer software update or replacement of a confirmed faulty component. Delete changes system operation and monitoring rather than restoring the failed equipment.

      What is an AdBlue Fix?

An AdBlue Fix means resolving the cause of an SCR warning or malfunction. The appropriate action depends on fault codes, measured values and physical checks. Clearing codes or resetting a countdown without correcting its cause may only provide temporary relief.

What vehicle and postcode information do you need for a quote?

Send your registration and postcode, together with the mileage, exact warning text and whether the engine currently starts. The registration helps identify the vehicle, but a VIN, engine code or diagnostic identification may also be needed. Your postcode lets us check coverage; an exact location and safe access details are needed before arranging attendance.

Can I send my warning light photo on WhatsApp?

Yes. Send a clear dashboard photo and, if available, the full diagnostic report with code descriptions. These help with initial assessment but do not prove which component has failed. Include details of recent AdBlue top-ups or repairs.

Do you offer 24/7 emergency callouts?

Yes. Our standard hours are Monday to Sunday, 8 AM to 8 PM. Emergency callouts are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, subject to location and availability. An additional emergency callout charge applies and is confirmed before dispatch.
