Jaguar Land Rover DEF faults
AdBlue Delete and Removal enquiries for Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles should begin by confirming whether the vehicle has a DEF/SCR system and identifying the fault. This guide covers relevant diesel variants, common warnings and the information needed for diagnosis. Send your registration, warning photo and postcode to check fitment and mobile availability.

01Understanding the service
Understanding Jaguar Land Rover DEF faults
DEF, also called AdBlue, is used by the SCR system to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. On equipped vehicles, warnings can relate to low fluid level, fluid quality, dosing performance, electrical faults or emissions-monitoring readings. A quality warning does not by itself prove that the fluid is contaminated. The exact message and stored fault codes are needed before deciding what to repair.
- Low DEF level or a refill not being recognised
- Incorrect DEF quality or DEF system fault messages
- A remaining-distance countdown before engine starting is prevented
- Dosing pressure, injector, heater or wiring faults
- NOx sensor readings or SCR efficiency outside expected limits
Models, engines and SCR fitment
SCR is fitted to many UK-market Euro 6 Jaguar and Land Rover diesels, with introduction dates varying by model and engine. The 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel and the later 3.0-litre straight-six Ingenium diesel are separate from the earlier 3.0-litre V6 diesel, which also used SCR in relevant versions. Do not assume that every vehicle built from around 2015 has AdBlue. Send your registration to check the specific variant.
- Range Rover L405 and L460: relevant SCR-equipped diesel variants
- Range Rover Sport L494 and L461: relevant SCR-equipped diesel variants
- Discovery 5, Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque: relevant diesel variants
- Jaguar E-Pace and F-Pace: relevant diesel variants; petrol and plug-in hybrid versions do not use diesel DEF
- Jaguar XE and XF: relevant SCR-equipped diesel variants
- Jaguar I-Pace is electric and has no DEF/SCR system
Diagnostic checks before choosing a service
Use diagnostic equipment that supports the vehicle's JLR-specific fault information, live data and required service routines. Checks may include fluid condition, leaks, deposits around the injector, dosing pressure, heater operation, wiring and NOx sensor plausibility. Sensor drift can affect readings without corrupting ECU software. A basic code reader may not support the tests or post-repair routines needed to resolve a countdown. Disabling monitoring does not establish or repair the original cause.
Fault codes and what they indicate
Fault codes identify a circuit or monitored condition, not necessarily the component that needs replacing. Record the complete code, any suffix and the diagnostic tool's description. Interpret these alongside JLR service information, freeze-frame data and test results.
- P20BA: reductant heater A control circuit performance
- P204F: reductant system performance, bank 1
- P208E: reductant injection valve stuck closed, bank 1 unit 1
- P2BAE: NOx exceedance, NOx control monitoring system disabled
- A no-start countdown may need successful fault rectification and the applicable verification procedure before it clears
What to send before an appointment
Provide your registration, postcode, mileage, exact dashboard message and any complete diagnostic report. Mention recent AdBlue refills, the amount added, previous repairs and whether the engine currently starts. These details help establish the next diagnostic step and whether a mobile visit is suitable. If starting has already been prevented, explain this before arranging attendance.

Check Your AdBlue Fault Code
Enter a diagnostic code to explore its meaning and the information to send with your enquiry.
8 common codes
- P20E8
Fault name
Reductant pressure too low
What it means
The system has reported insufficient reductant pressure. Diagnostic checks help establish the cause, rather than assuming a failed pump.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P20EE
Fault name
SCR NOx catalyst efficiency below threshold
What it means
SCR NOx reduction efficiency has been reported below its expected threshold. The full scan and sensor readings help identify possible causes.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P204F
Fault name
Reductant system performance, bank 1
What it means
The code concerns SCR operation or monitoring. Read it alongside the full scan and vehicle-specific information.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P2200
Fault name
NOx sensor circuit, bank 1
What it means
The code concerns a NOx sensor circuit or signal. It does not alone confirm which part needs attention.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P229F
Fault name
NOx sensor circuit range/performance, bank 1 sensor 2
What it means
The code concerns a NOx sensor circuit or signal. It does not alone confirm which part needs attention.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P2047
Fault name
Reductant injection valve circuit/open, bank 1 unit 1
What it means
The code concerns a dosing or aftertreatment injector. Check the fitted system and full scan before assuming a cause.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P203F
Fault name
Reductant level too low
What it means
The system reports that the reductant level is too low. Check the actual fluid level and whether the reported level is accurate.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P207F
Fault name
Reductant quality performance
What it means
The system has reported reductant quality performance. The code alone does not identify the cause.

Customer questions
Questions customers ask us
Still unsure? Send us your registration and a photo of the warning on WhatsApp.
Ask on WhatsAppWhat is AdBlue Delete for a Jaguar or Land Rover?
AdBlue Delete refers to software changes intended to disable DEF/SCR operation or monitoring. It does not repair a failed pump, injector, heater or sensor, and it should not be described as a guaranteed cure for every warning or starting fault. Send your registration and diagnostic report so the fitted system can be checked.
What is AdBlue Removal?
AdBlue Removal is often used to describe the same electronic disabling process as a delete, rather than physical removal of components. The term alone does not explain what is changed, and it does not mean that all related faults have been repaired.
What is the difference between AdBlue Repair and a delete?
AdBlue Repair addresses the diagnosed cause of a DEF/SCR fault. Depending on the findings, this may involve wiring repairs, resolving a fluid or dosing problem, replacing a faulty component or applying a relevant software update. A delete disables functions rather than restoring correct system operation.
What is an AdBlue Fix for the 'No Start' warning?
An AdBlue Fix should address the reason for the warning. A low-fluid countdown may need a suitable refill and recognition procedure, while a system-fault countdown needs diagnosis. After repairs, the vehicle may require prescribed resets, functional tests or a verification drive. Clearing codes alone may not resolve the underlying problem.
What vehicle and postcode information do you need for a quote?
Please send your registration, location postcode, mileage and the exact warning shown. Include any diagnostic codes and recent repair or refill history. Registration helps identify the vehicle, but a VIN check or diagnostic scan may also be needed to confirm its SCR equipment and installed ECU software. Your postcode allows mobile coverage to be checked.
Can I send my warning light photo on WhatsApp?
Yes. Send a clear photo of the full dashboard message, any remaining countdown and the diagnostic report if available. Include complete fault codes with suffixes where shown. These details help with an initial assessment, but photos alone cannot confirm which component has failed.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency callouts?
Yes. Our standard hours are Monday to Sunday, 8 AM to 8 PM. Emergency callouts are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, subject to location and availability. An additional emergency callout charge applies and is confirmed before dispatch.
