Fleet downtime from AdBlue faults
AdBlue Delete, AdBlue Removal, AdBlue Repair and AdBlue Fix are terms fleet operators may encounter when investigating SCR warnings. They describe different approaches and should not be treated as interchangeable repairs. Reducing downtime starts with confirming which vehicles have SCR, recording their warnings and diagnosing the cause before scheduling work.

01Understanding the service
How SCR faults disrupt fleet operations
Depending on the vehicle and fault, an SCR problem may trigger a warning, reduced performance or a countdown to restart prevention. Not every warning produces the same response, and HGV strategies can differ from those used in vans. A restart restriction is not the same as the engine shutting down while driving. Recording the exact message helps fleet managers prioritise assessment and plan vehicle cover.
- Record the warning message and any remaining countdown distance
- Note whether performance is reduced or starting is already inhibited
- Capture mileage, fluid top-up history and recent repairs
- Arrange prompt assessment rather than relying on repeated code clearing
- Group vehicles by location and urgency when requesting fleet support
Understanding diagnostic fault codes
On SCR-equipped vehicles, P20E8 generally means reductant pressure too low, while P208E generally means reductant injection valve stuck closed, bank 1 unit 1. Manufacturer-specific descriptions and test procedures should also be checked. Low pressure can involve the supply, pump, leaks or pressure measurement; an injector-related code requires checks of the injector and its control. Crystallisation is one possible finding, not a diagnosis established by either code alone.
- Obtain the complete scan, including related codes and their status
- Retain freeze-frame information before clearing faults
- Check relevant live data and follow vehicle-specific test procedures
- Verify system operation after the diagnosed fault has been repaired
Confirming vehicle fitment and specification
UK-market Sprinter, Transit, Berlingo, Partner, Crafter and Daily ranges include SCR-equipped variants, but fitment depends on the engine, build date and emissions specification. Earlier or different variants may not use AdBlue. Tank, pump, heater, injector and NOx sensor faults must be assessed against the actual vehicle rather than assumed from its badge. Send the registration first; a VIN and diagnostic identification may be needed to establish the exact ECU and software version.
Planning mobile assessment
Provide the depot or vehicle location postcode so coverage and availability can be confirmed. Explain whether the vehicle starts, whether it has reduced power and whether it is in a safe, accessible working area. Some diagnostic checks and repairs may be suitable for a mobile visit; others may require parts, further testing or workshop equipment. Assessment should establish the likely work and any follow-up requirements rather than promise an immediate return to service.
Reducing repeat downtime
Keep a separate fault and repair record for each vehicle. Similar dashboard messages across a fleet do not necessarily have the same cause. Comparing confirmed diagnoses, operating conditions and fluid-handling practices can help identify recurring issues without replacing parts unnecessarily.
- Use AdBlue meeting ISO 22241 and follow the vehicle's filling instructions
- Keep filling equipment clean and avoid fluid contamination
- Record replaced components and completed software updates
- Check applicable manufacturer campaigns using the VIN
- Confirm the warning has cleared through the required post-repair checks

Check Your AdBlue Fault Code
Enter a diagnostic code to explore its meaning and the information to send with your enquiry.
8 common codes
- P20E8
Fault name
Reductant pressure too low
What it means
The system has reported insufficient reductant pressure. Diagnostic checks help establish the cause, rather than assuming a failed pump.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P20EE
Fault name
SCR NOx catalyst efficiency below threshold
What it means
SCR NOx reduction efficiency has been reported below its expected threshold. The full scan and sensor readings help identify possible causes.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P204F
Fault name
Reductant system performance, bank 1
What it means
The code concerns SCR operation or monitoring. Read it alongside the full scan and vehicle-specific information.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P2200
Fault name
NOx sensor circuit, bank 1
What it means
The code concerns a NOx sensor circuit or signal. It does not alone confirm which part needs attention.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P229F
Fault name
NOx sensor circuit range/performance, bank 1 sensor 2
What it means
The code concerns a NOx sensor circuit or signal. It does not alone confirm which part needs attention.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P2047
Fault name
Reductant injection valve circuit/open, bank 1 unit 1
What it means
The code concerns a dosing or aftertreatment injector. Check the fitted system and full scan before assuming a cause.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P203F
Fault name
Reductant level too low
What it means
The system reports that the reductant level is too low. Check the actual fluid level and whether the reported level is accurate.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P207F
Fault name
Reductant quality performance
What it means
The system has reported reductant quality performance. The code alone does not identify the cause.

Customer questions

Still unsure? Send us your registration and a photo of the warning on WhatsApp.
Ask on WhatsAppWhat is AdBlue Delete for a fleet vehicle?
AdBlue Delete generally means software changes intended to disable SCR operation or its monitoring. It does not repair a defective pump, injector, sensor or wiring, and it should not be described as eliminating all future faults. Send the vehicle registration and diagnostic information so its SCR setup and reported symptoms can be assessed.
What does AdBlue Removal mean?
AdBlue Removal is often used to mean electronic disabling rather than physical removal of the tank or other components. The term alone does not establish what work is proposed or whether an existing hardware fault remains. An assessment should clarify the scope before any work is agreed.
How does AdBlue Repair differ from Delete?
AdBlue Repair aims to restore correct system operation. Depending on the diagnosis, this may involve wiring repairs, addressing fluid contamination, an applicable manufacturer software update or replacement of a confirmed faulty component. Delete disables functions rather than restoring them.
What is an AdBlue Fix for a countdown timer?
An AdBlue Fix should address the diagnosed reason for the warning. A low-level warning may require a suitable refill, whereas a system-fault countdown needs further testing. Clearing codes alone may not cancel the countdown or prevent it returning. Some vehicles require a specified diagnostic verification procedure after repair.
What information do you need for a fleet quote?
Send each vehicle's registration, mileage, location postcode, warning message and remaining countdown distance, if displayed. Include fault codes and recent repair history where available. The registration helps identify the likely specification, but a VIN, diagnostic scan or ECU identification may also be needed to confirm fitment and quote for the work.
Can I send my warning light photo on WhatsApp?
Yes. Send a clear photograph of the full warning message and any countdown. This helps establish urgency, but a dashboard photograph usually cannot identify the underlying fault code. Include a diagnostic report if you have one.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency callouts?
Yes. Our standard hours are Monday to Sunday, 8 AM to 8 PM. Emergency callouts are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, subject to location and availability. An additional emergency callout charge applies and is confirmed before dispatch.
