DPF vs EGR vs AdBlue systems
AdBlue Delete and Removal enquiries should start by distinguishing SCR faults from DPF and EGR problems. The DPF traps soot, EGR helps reduce the NOx produced during combustion, and AdBlue supports NOx reduction in the SCR catalyst. These systems interact, but a fault in one does not automatically mean another needs work. Send your registration and exact warning message if you are unsure which systems your vehicle has.

01Understanding the service
What is the difference between DPF, EGR and AdBlue?
A diesel particulate filter captures soot from the exhaust. Regeneration burns off accumulated soot, but leaves ash that may eventually require specialist cleaning or filter replacement. Exhaust gas recirculation returns a controlled amount of exhaust gas to the engine intake, lowering peak combustion temperatures and reducing NOx formation. In an AdBlue-equipped SCR system, a urea solution is dosed into the exhaust; the resulting ammonia reacts with NOx in the catalyst to produce mainly nitrogen and water.
- DPF: Controls particulate emissions and needs suitable conditions for regeneration.
- EGR: Reduces engine-out NOx; deposits, actuator faults and cooler problems can affect operation.
- AdBlue/SCR: Treats NOx in the exhaust using a dosing system, catalyst and associated sensors.
AdBlue Repair vs DPF Maintenance
An AdBlue-related restart countdown may indicate low fluid level or a detected SCR malfunction. Follow the vehicle handbook for any refill procedure and have persistent warnings assessed before the countdown expires. SCR diagnosis may include fluid quality, leaks, pump pressure, injector dosing, wiring and NOx sensor readings. DPF diagnosis instead considers soot and ash loading, pressure-sensor readings and regeneration history. Repeated short journeys can inhibit regeneration, but engine or sensor faults can also contribute. EGR problems may change airflow, engine-out NOx and exhaust temperatures, affecting both DPF and SCR behaviour.
Common Symptoms and Fault Codes
Fault codes identify a detected condition, not necessarily the component that needs replacing. A low reductant-pressure code, for example, does not by itself prove that the pump has failed. DPF and EGR faults can cause warning lights or reduced performance, while SCR faults may produce warnings and restart restrictions even when the engine appears to run normally. Symptoms and control strategies vary by model; retain the full scan report, including manufacturer-specific descriptions and code suffixes.
- P20E8: Reductant Pressure Too Low.
- P2002: Diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency Below Threshold, Bank 1.
- P2BAD: NOx Exceedance, Root Cause Unknown.
- P0401: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected.
- Restart countdown: Record the exact message; it may relate to low AdBlue level or an SCR malfunction.
Vehicle-Specific Considerations
AdBlue fitment depends on the engine, production date, market and emissions specification. A diesel badge or model year alone is not enough to confirm SCR equipment, and not every Euro 6 diesel uses AdBlue. BlueHDi, BlueTEC, EcoBlue and TDI cover differing hardware and control arrangements, so a reported fault on one version should not be assumed to affect every vehicle carrying that badge. Send your registration to help identify the likely setup; VIN information, component identification or diagnostic checks may be needed for confirmation.
Information to Send Before an Assessment
Provide enough detail to distinguish an SCR warning from a DPF or EGR problem and to check whether a mobile assessment is suitable. Avoid repeatedly clearing codes before diagnosis, as useful fault information may be lost.
- Registration, mileage and postcode.
- Exact dashboard message and remaining restart-countdown distance, if shown.
- Full diagnostic codes and descriptions, not just a suggested replacement part.
- Recent AdBlue top-ups, repairs and changes in driving behaviour.
- Whether the vehicle starts and whether performance is restricted.

Check Your AdBlue Fault Code
Enter a diagnostic code to explore its meaning and the information to send with your enquiry.
8 common codes
- P20E8
Fault name
Reductant pressure too low
What it means
The system has reported insufficient reductant pressure. Diagnostic checks help establish the cause, rather than assuming a failed pump.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P20EE
Fault name
SCR NOx catalyst efficiency below threshold
What it means
SCR NOx reduction efficiency has been reported below its expected threshold. The full scan and sensor readings help identify possible causes.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P204F
Fault name
Reductant system performance, bank 1
What it means
The code concerns SCR operation or monitoring. Read it alongside the full scan and vehicle-specific information.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P2200
Fault name
NOx sensor circuit, bank 1
What it means
The code concerns a NOx sensor circuit or signal. It does not alone confirm which part needs attention.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P229F
Fault name
NOx sensor circuit range/performance, bank 1 sensor 2
What it means
The code concerns a NOx sensor circuit or signal. It does not alone confirm which part needs attention.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P2047
Fault name
Reductant injection valve circuit/open, bank 1 unit 1
What it means
The code concerns a dosing or aftertreatment injector. Check the fitted system and full scan before assuming a cause.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P203F
Fault name
Reductant level too low
What it means
The system reports that the reductant level is too low. Check the actual fluid level and whether the reported level is accurate.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P207F
Fault name
Reductant quality performance
What it means
The system has reported reductant quality performance. The code alone does not identify the cause.

Customer questions
Questions customers ask us
Still unsure? Send us your registration and a photo of the warning on WhatsApp.
Ask on WhatsAppWhat is AdBlue Delete?
AdBlue Delete describes software changes intended to disable SCR dosing and associated monitoring or restart restrictions. It does not repair faulty components or resolve separate DPF and EGR problems. The effect varies with the vehicle and software; send your registration and diagnostic information so the fitted system can be checked.
What is AdBlue Removal?
AdBlue Removal is often used to mean electronic disabling rather than physical removal of the tank or exhaust components. The term alone does not specify what is changed, so any proposed work needs a clear explanation for the particular vehicle.
What is the difference between AdBlue Delete and AdBlue Repair?
AdBlue Repair aims to restore SCR operation after identifying the cause of a fault. This may involve wiring repairs, dosing-system work, component replacement or a manufacturer-specified software update. Delete changes system operation instead of repairing the cause and does not guarantee freedom from future faults.
What is an AdBlue Fix?
An AdBlue Fix is a general description, not a diagnosis or a specific procedure. A suitable remedy depends on fluid level and quality, stored codes, live readings and component tests. Clearing a warning or fault code alone does not establish that the problem is resolved.
What vehicle and postcode information do you need for a quote?
Send your registration, postcode, mileage, exact warning message and any diagnostic codes. Your registration helps identify the likely engine and emissions specification, while your postcode lets us check mobile availability. VIN details or an ECU scan may also be needed to confirm the fitted hardware and software.
Can I send my warning light photo on WhatsApp?
Yes. Send a clear photo of the warning, any restart countdown and the complete diagnostic report if available. These help guide initial assessment, but warning lights alone cannot reliably distinguish a DPF, EGR or SCR fault.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency callouts?
Yes. Our standard hours are Monday to Sunday, 8 AM to 8 PM. Emergency callouts are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, subject to location and availability. An additional emergency callout charge applies and is confirmed before dispatch.
