BMW SCR and NOx faults
AdBlue Delete and Removal enquiries for BMW SCR and NOx faults start with confirming the vehicle's specification. Some UK-market 3 Series, 5 Series, X3 and X5 diesels have AdBlue-based SCR, but fitment varies by engine, build date and version. Send your registration, warning message and postcode to help identify the system and check mobile service availability.

01Understanding the service
Understanding BMW SCR and NOx faults
On an SCR-equipped BMW diesel, AdBlue is dosed into the exhaust to help reduce nitrogen oxides. Diagnosis may involve NOx sensor readings, exhaust temperatures, dosing pressure, injector operation and wiring checks. A NOx-related fault does not automatically prove that a NOx sensor has failed, and a NOx sensor fault alone does not establish AdBlue fitment. Some SCR faults trigger a restart countdown; this generally means the engine may not restart after it is switched off once the stated limit is reached, rather than being stopped while running.
- AdBlue or SCR system warnings
- Fluid-quality or dosing-related messages, where supported
- P20EE: SCR NOx catalyst efficiency below threshold, bank 1
- P2002: diesel particulate filter efficiency below threshold, bank 1; not an SCR-specific code
- NOx sensor communication, electrical or heater faults requiring confirmation with the full diagnostic description
AdBlue Delete and Removal options
Software deactivation and repair are different approaches and should not be described as interchangeable. Disabling SCR functions does not prevent a pump from physically deteriorating, remove existing deposits or resolve unrelated engine and exhaust faults. Repair should follow evidence from the fault memory and operating data rather than repeated replacement of sensors without testing.
Confirming BMW model and system fitment
A model badge, registration year or engine family alone is not enough to confirm SCR fitment. UK F30/F31 3 Series and other BMW diesel specifications changed during production. N47, N57, B47 and B57 applications must be checked individually rather than treated as having identical emissions equipment. ECU family, software version and sensor layout also vary. Send your registration; a VIN check and vehicle scan may be required for confirmation.
- Confirm the engine, build date and emissions equipment before quoting
- Check the actual NOx sensor layout rather than assuming every model uses the same arrangement
- Record BMW-specific codes with the reporting control unit and full fault text
- Use fault status, freeze-frame information and live readings to guide testing
Mobile diagnosis and restart warnings
Provide your postcode and confirm whether the BMW starts before arranging a mobile visit. Initial checks may include a full fault scan, wiring inspection and assessment of SCR operating data. Some tests or repairs require additional equipment or workshop access. If a restart countdown is displayed, arrange diagnosis promptly and follow the vehicle handbook. Attendance times and the ability to restore starting must be confirmed for the particular fault and location.
Information to send before diagnosis
Accurate vehicle and fault information helps distinguish an SCR problem from a separate engine-management or particulate-filter fault.
- Vehicle registration and, if requested, VIN
- Photo of the complete dashboard or iDrive warning
- Remaining countdown distance and whether the engine currently starts
- Full diagnostic report, including control-unit names and fault descriptions
- Recent AdBlue top-ups, repairs or software work
- Current postcode and safe access details for the vehicle

Check Your AdBlue Fault Code
Enter a diagnostic code to explore its meaning and the information to send with your enquiry.
8 common codes
- P20E8
Fault name
Reductant pressure too low
What it means
The system has reported insufficient reductant pressure. Diagnostic checks help establish the cause, rather than assuming a failed pump.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P20EE
Fault name
SCR NOx catalyst efficiency below threshold
What it means
SCR NOx reduction efficiency has been reported below its expected threshold. The full scan and sensor readings help identify possible causes.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P204F
Fault name
Reductant system performance, bank 1
What it means
The code concerns SCR operation or monitoring. Read it alongside the full scan and vehicle-specific information.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P2200
Fault name
NOx sensor circuit, bank 1
What it means
The code concerns a NOx sensor circuit or signal. It does not alone confirm which part needs attention.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P229F
Fault name
NOx sensor circuit range/performance, bank 1 sensor 2
What it means
The code concerns a NOx sensor circuit or signal. It does not alone confirm which part needs attention.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P2047
Fault name
Reductant injection valve circuit/open, bank 1 unit 1
What it means
The code concerns a dosing or aftertreatment injector. Check the fitted system and full scan before assuming a cause.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P203F
Fault name
Reductant level too low
What it means
The system reports that the reductant level is too low. Check the actual fluid level and whether the reported level is accurate.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P207F
Fault name
Reductant quality performance
What it means
The system has reported reductant quality performance. The code alone does not identify the cause.

Ask on WhatsAppWhat is AdBlue Delete for a BMW?
AdBlue Delete refers to software changes intended to disable SCR dosing and associated monitoring on a suitably equipped BMW diesel. AdBlue Removal is often used for the same service; AdBlue Repair addresses faults in the original system, while AdBlue Fix is a general term for resolving the warning. Software changes do not repair failed hardware or guarantee freedom from other engine warnings. Send your registration and warning details so the vehicle's specification can be checked.
What is AdBlue Removal?
AdBlue Removal commonly means electronic deactivation rather than physical removal of the tank or exhaust components. The term does not describe a single procedure suitable for every BMW. Disconnecting a module can create additional communication faults, so the installed system must be identified first.
How does AdBlue Repair differ from software deactivation?
AdBlue Repair restores the original system by addressing the diagnosed cause, which might involve wiring, a sensor, the dosing equipment or another component. Software deactivation does not restore SCR operation or fix physical damage. A fault scan and supporting tests are needed before deciding what work is appropriate.
What is an AdBlue Fix?
An AdBlue Fix means resolving a specific SCR-related problem. Depending on test results, this could involve correcting a wiring fault, restoring dosing pressure, replacing a confirmed faulty component or applying an applicable BMW software update. Clearing codes alone does not establish that the problem is resolved.
What vehicle and postcode information do you need for a quote?
Send your registration, current postcode, exact dashboard message and any diagnostic report. Your registration helps identify the likely engine and specification, while your postcode allows mobile availability to be checked. The VIN, build date and an ECU scan may also be needed to confirm fitted hardware and software.
Can I send my warning light photo on WhatsApp?
A clear photo of the instrument display or iDrive warning is useful. Include the full wording, any remaining countdown distance and whether the engine currently starts. If WhatsApp is available through the contact details on this site, you can send the photo there along with your registration.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency callouts?
Yes. Our standard hours are Monday to Sunday, 8 AM to 8 PM. Emergency callouts are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, subject to location and availability. An additional emergency callout charge applies and is confirmed before dispatch.
