AdBlue Guide

AdBlue pump failure

AdBlue Delete and Removal enquiries should begin with an accurate diagnosis. A suspected AdBlue pump failure may cause low dosing pressure, an SCR warning or a restart countdown, but similar symptoms can result from leaks, restrictions, wiring faults or incorrect sensor readings. Send your registration, postcode and warning details to discuss assessment and mobile availability.

01Understanding the service

AdBlue pump failure: symptoms and warning signs

The supply pump delivers AdBlue to the dosing system at a controlled pressure. If the required pressure is not achieved, the vehicle may store faults and display a warning. Some systems subsequently impose a restart countdown; this is not necessarily immediate and does not occur with every fault. A full tank does not rule out a pressure or dosing problem. Pump noise or silence is only meaningful when assessed against the system's commanded operating state.

  • An engine, UREA or SCR warning, depending on the vehicle
  • A message indicating a remaining distance before restart is prevented
  • Measured pressure that fails to reach or maintain the manufacturer's specified value
  • Leaks or white crystalline deposits around lines and connections, which require investigation rather than automatic pump replacement

Vehicles and SCR fitment

Pump and supply-module faults can occur on SCR-equipped Peugeot and Citroën BlueHDi vehicles, Volkswagen and Audi diesels, Mercedes-Benz Sprinters and Ford Transit EcoBlue variants. Fitment and component design vary by engine, build date and market specification; a model name or TDI badge alone does not establish that AdBlue is fitted. On some vehicles the pump is serviced as part of a larger tank assembly, while others offer separate components. Send your registration to check the likely configuration before discussing parts or work.

  • Peugeot 3008 and 5008: relevant BlueHDi versions
  • Citroën Berlingo and Dispatch: SCR-equipped diesel versions
  • Volkswagen Transporter, Caddy, Tiguan and Touareg, plus Audi TDI models: selected SCR-equipped versions
  • Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Ford Transit EcoBlue: confirm the specific engine and build specification

Diagnosis before replacing a pump

A useful diagnosis combines the full fault report with live data and vehicle-specific tests. Checks may include fluid condition, leaks, delivery-line restrictions, pump power and earth connections, pressure-sensor plausibility, heater operation and commanded pressure build-up. A heater fault is not automatically a pump failure, and communication faults can arise from supply or network problems. Whether testing can be completed at your location depends on access, equipment requirements and vehicle condition; send your postcode to check availability.

Understanding P20E8 and P208B

P20E8 means reductant pressure too low. Possible causes include inadequate pump output, a leak, a restriction or an incorrect pressure reading. P208B means reductant pump control range/performance; it does not establish which component has failed. Manufacturer-specific descriptions, subcodes and test procedures should be checked before condemning the pump. U-codes generally concern communication or network faults and likewise require investigation.

Choosing the next step

Ask for the diagnostic findings and the scope of any proposed work. A confirmed hardware fault may require a separately serviceable component or a complete supply-module assembly, depending on the vehicle. After repair, the system may need priming, guided tests or a vehicle-specific reset procedure before normal operation and countdown clearance can be verified. Software changes do not repair leaks, seized components or damaged wiring, and should not be described as guaranteeing that all warnings or starting problems will disappear.

Ask on WhatsApp
What is AdBlue Delete?

AdBlue Delete refers to software changes intended to disable SCR dosing and associated monitoring. It does not repair a failed pump or resolve underlying wiring damage, leaks or other engine faults. Send your registration and diagnostic results so the fitted system and reported symptoms can be assessed.

What is AdBlue Removal?

AdBlue Removal is often used to mean a software delete rather than physical removal of the tank or pump. The term can be ambiguous, so confirm exactly what any proposed work includes.

What is the difference between AdBlue Delete and AdBlue Repair?

Repair aims to restore SCR operation by identifying and correcting the cause of the fault. Depending on the vehicle, that may involve wiring repairs, a delivery-line or injector repair, or replacement of a pump or tank module. A delete changes system operation and monitoring rather than repairing those components.

What is an AdBlue Fix?

An AdBlue Fix is a general description, not a specific repair method. The appropriate work depends on test results. Clearing codes alone will not resolve a mechanical, electrical or fluid-quality fault, and warnings may return if the cause remains.

What vehicle and postcode information do you need for a quote?

Send your registration, current postcode, mileage, exact warning message and any fault-code report. The registration helps identify the likely vehicle specification, while the postcode allows mobile availability to be checked. VIN details or a diagnostic scan may still be needed to confirm the installed hardware and ECU version.

Can I send my warning light photo on WhatsApp?

Yes. Send a clear photograph of the warning and any remaining-distance countdown, together with your registration. Photos help establish the symptoms but cannot confirm that the pump has failed. Pressure, electrical and other checks may be required.

Do you offer 24/7 emergency callouts?

Yes. Our standard hours are Monday to Sunday, 8 AM to 8 PM. Emergency callouts are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, subject to location and availability. An additional emergency callout charge applies and is confirmed before dispatch.
