AdBlue Guide

AdBlue injector crystallisation

AdBlue Delete and Removal enquiries should start with an assessment of the fault. AdBlue injector crystallisation can affect SCR-equipped diesels, but a dashboard warning alone does not prove that the injector is blocked. Send your registration and postcode so we can check likely fitment and mobile availability.

01Understanding the service

AdBlue Injector Crystallisation Explained

AdBlue is an aqueous urea solution. White crystalline residue can remain when water evaporates from a leak or residual fluid around the dosing injector. Inside the exhaust, poor atomisation, incorrect dosing or insufficient temperature for evaporation and urea decomposition can promote deposits around the injector and mixer. Repeated low-load operation can contribute, but driving pattern alone is not a diagnosis. Deposits may disrupt the spray pattern or restrict dosing; external residue does not necessarily mean the injector is internally blocked.

  • White residue around the injector or its connection can indicate leakage and needs inspection.
  • An SCR warning or restart countdown can have several causes, not just crystallisation.
  • Reduced power may occur on some vehicles but is not a reliable indicator of a blocked injector.
  • Dosing, pressure and electrical tests help distinguish a deposit problem from other faults.

Vehicle Fitment and Model Differences

UK Peugeot Partner and Citroën Berlingo SCR-equipped diesel versions include 1.6 and 1.5 BlueHDi engines, depending on year; earlier HDi versions should not automatically be assumed to use AdBlue. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and E-Class SCR fitment also varies with year and engine. These examples do not establish a higher crystallisation rate than other vehicles. Send your registration so the likely engine and emissions system can be checked before advice is given.

Diagnostic Considerations and Common Fault Codes

Fault codes identify a detected condition, not necessarily the failed component. Assessment may include checking for leaks and deposits, testing supply pressure and injector dosing, inspecting wiring, and reviewing exhaust-temperature and NOx-sensor data. SCR efficiency faults can result from poor dosing, sensor faults, exhaust leaks or catalyst problems. DPF faults require their own checks rather than being treated as evidence of crystallisation.

    • P20E8: reductant pressure too low. Check the supply system, leaks and pressure measurement; this does not prove injector blockage.
    • P208E: reductant injection valve stuck closed, bank 1 unit 1. Deposits are one possible cause, but testing is required.
    • P2047: reductant injection valve circuit/open, bank 1 unit 1. Prioritise electrical checks rather than assuming a physical blockage.
    • P20EE: SCR NOx catalyst efficiency below threshold, bank 1. Several dosing, sensor and catalyst conditions can trigger this code.
    • Confirm the full code, suffix and manufacturer-specific test procedure for the vehicle.

    AdBlue Delete and Removal Options

AdBlue Delete and Removal generally describe disabling SCR functions rather than repairing the cause of deposits. They should not be described as guaranteed cures for leaks, exhaust restrictions, all warning lights or restart inhibition. Repair should follow test results: manufacturer-approved cleaning may be appropriate in some cases, while a leaking or defective injector may need replacement. Supply-line cleaning is not automatically required. After repair, dosing checks and any specified reset or adaptation procedures help verify operation. The underlying cause should be addressed to reduce the risk of recurrence.

      Mobile Assessment and Restart Warnings

A restart countdown reaching zero may prevent the engine from restarting, depending on the vehicle and fault. Follow the vehicle handbook and do not assume that topping up or clearing codes will restore starting. If stranded, prioritise a safe location and arrange recovery where necessary. Send your registration, postcode, warning message and fault codes so we can confirm whether a mobile assessment is suitable. Some repairs or exhaust inspections may require workshop equipment.

        Questions customers ask us

Still unsure? Send us your registration and a photo of the warning on WhatsApp.

        Ask on WhatsApp
        What is AdBlue Delete?

AdBlue Delete describes software changes intended to disable SCR dosing and associated monitoring. It does not physically repair a leaking injector, remove exhaust deposits or resolve unrelated engine faults. Applicability and effects depend on the vehicle and its control systems; send your registration for an initial check.

        What is AdBlue Removal?

AdBlue Removal is often used to mean a software delete rather than physical removal of components. The term alone does not specify what work is involved, and existing leaks or restrictions still need assessment.

What is the difference between AdBlue Delete and AdBlue Repair?

AdBlue Repair addresses a fault while retaining SCR operation. Depending on test results, this may involve an injector, seal, wiring, supply pressure or another component. Delete changes system operation through software rather than restoring the faulty system.

        What is an AdBlue Fix?

AdBlue Fix is a general description, not a specific procedure. A useful assessment identifies the cause of the warning and explains the proposed work. Clearing a fault code alone does not establish that the underlying problem has been resolved.

What vehicle and postcode information do you need for a quote?

Send your registration, current postcode, mileage and the exact warning message. Your registration helps identify the likely engine and SCR fitment, but a diagnostic scan or ECU identification may be needed to confirm the installed hardware and software. Your postcode allows us to check mobile availability.

Can I send my warning light photo on WhatsApp?

Yes. Send a clear dashboard photo and any complete fault-code report, including manufacturer-specific descriptions where available. These help guide assessment but cannot confirm crystallisation without further checks.

Do you offer 24/7 emergency callouts?

Yes. Our standard hours are Monday to Sunday, 8 AM to 8 PM. Emergency callouts are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, subject to location and availability. An additional emergency callout charge applies and is confirmed before dispatch.
