AdBlue fault codes explained
AdBlue Delete and Removal describe different approaches to SCR problems, but a fault code alone cannot determine the right action. This guide explains common codes, what they do, and do not, tell you, and which details to send for an initial assessment. SCR fitment and diagnostic procedures vary by engine and year; send your registration if you are unsure whether your vehicle uses AdBlue.

01Understanding the service
Decoding AdBlue fault codes and dashboard warnings
SCR-related faults can trigger an engine warning light, an emissions-system message or, on some vehicles, a restart countdown. Not every code produces the same restriction. Record the exact warning and read all relevant control modules before clearing anything: associated codes and freeze-frame data can help distinguish a supply, electrical, dosing or sensor problem.
- P204F: Reductant System Performance, Bank 1. A broad system-performance fault, not a diagnosis of a particular component.
- P207F: Reductant Quality Performance. This does not, by itself, prove the AdBlue is contaminated.
- P20E8: Reductant Pressure Too Low. Check pressure data, fluid supply, leaks, restrictions and pump operation before replacing parts.
- P208E: Reductant Injection Valve Stuck Closed, Bank 1 Unit 1. Testing is needed to establish whether the injector, its supply or its control is responsible.
- P2002: Particulate Trap Efficiency Below Threshold, Bank 1. This concerns the diesel particulate filter, not specifically the AdBlue system.
- P2BAD: Do not rely on a generic 'exhaust gas cleaning error' label. Confirm the full manufacturer-specific description and diagnostic procedure for the vehicle.
AdBlue Delete and Removal versus diagnosis
Software disabling and fault repair are not equivalent. Disabling SCR functions does not correct leaks, crystallisation, damaged wiring or failed hardware, and it cannot be assumed to resolve unrelated limp-mode or starting faults. Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner, Audi and Volkswagen diesel ranges include different emissions systems depending on engine and year; the model name alone does not establish AdBlue fitment. Send your registration and the complete diagnostic report before discussing options.
AdBlue Repair and Fix: finding the underlying fault
A useful diagnostic sequence starts with the warning message, stored codes, relevant live data and a visual inspection. Depending on the fault, testing may include fluid condition, pressure build-up, dosing operation, heater circuits, wiring and NOx sensor plausibility. Replace parts only when the evidence supports it. Clearing codes or disabling monitoring is not the same as fixing the cause, and some repairs require an adaptation or verification drive before the warning clears.
Manufacturer-specific diagnostic considerations
On Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles, a low-fluid warning despite a recent refill does not establish an internal float failure; level measurement and refill recognition depend on the system fitted. Mercedes-Benz P2BA9 and P2BAE belong to the NOx-exceedance/monitoring diagnostic family and should not simply be labelled NOx sensor cross-check faults. Confirm the exact description and associated codes for the vehicle. P20BA means Reductant Heater A Control Circuit Performance; on an SCR-equipped Ford Transit, it requires circuit and component testing rather than automatic tank replacement.
- Confirm the engine, model year and SCR specification using registration details and, where needed, the VIN.
- Record every code with its suffix, reporting module and current or stored status.
- State whether the engine starts and photograph any remaining-distance countdown.
- Mention recent refills, repairs, battery problems and whether the warning is intermittent.
Arranging a mobile assessment
Send your registration, current postcode, warning photo and any diagnostic report so coverage and likely diagnostic needs can be checked. Explain whether the vehicle is safely accessible and whether it starts. Some checks or repairs may be possible on site, but access requirements, workshop equipment or a no-start condition can make recovery necessary. Mobile attendance and the scope of work should be confirmed before booking.

Check Your AdBlue Fault Code
Enter a diagnostic code to explore its meaning and the information to send with your enquiry.
8 common codes
- P20E8
Fault name
Reductant pressure too low
What it means
The system has reported insufficient reductant pressure. Diagnostic checks help establish the cause, rather than assuming a failed pump.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P20EE
Fault name
SCR NOx catalyst efficiency below threshold
What it means
SCR NOx reduction efficiency has been reported below its expected threshold. The full scan and sensor readings help identify possible causes.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P204F
Fault name
Reductant system performance, bank 1
What it means
The code concerns SCR operation or monitoring. Read it alongside the full scan and vehicle-specific information.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P2200
Fault name
NOx sensor circuit, bank 1
What it means
The code concerns a NOx sensor circuit or signal. It does not alone confirm which part needs attention.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P229F
Fault name
NOx sensor circuit range/performance, bank 1 sensor 2
What it means
The code concerns a NOx sensor circuit or signal. It does not alone confirm which part needs attention.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P2047
Fault name
Reductant injection valve circuit/open, bank 1 unit 1
What it means
The code concerns a dosing or aftertreatment injector. Check the fitted system and full scan before assuming a cause.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P203F
Fault name
Reductant level too low
What it means
The system reports that the reductant level is too low. Check the actual fluid level and whether the reported level is accurate.
VIEW FAULT DETAILS - P207F
Fault name
Reductant quality performance
What it means
The system has reported reductant quality performance. The code alone does not identify the cause.

Customer questions
Questions customers ask us
Still unsure? Send us your registration and a photo of the warning on WhatsApp.
Ask on WhatsAppWhat is AdBlue Delete?
AdBlue Delete refers to software changes intended to disable SCR dosing, monitoring or related warnings. It does not repair a failed pump, injector, sensor or catalyst. Results depend on the vehicle and calibration, and it should not be described as a guaranteed cure for every countdown or starting problem.
What is AdBlue Removal?
AdBlue Removal is often used to describe software disabling of SCR functions, rather than physical removal of the equipment. The term can be ambiguous, so the proposed work should be clearly explained. It does not restore the system's ability to reduce NOx emissions.
What is AdBlue Repair?
AdBlue Repair identifies and corrects the underlying SCR fault so the system can operate as intended. This may involve wiring repairs, fluid checks, a supported software update or replacement of a component confirmed faulty by testing. Delete disables functions rather than repairing them.
What is an AdBlue Fix?
An AdBlue Fix should address the diagnosed fault rather than simply erase stored codes. After repair, some vehicles need a manufacturer-specific reset, adaptation or successful system test before warnings and restart restrictions clear.
What vehicle and postcode information do you need for a quote?
Send your registration, current postcode, dashboard message and any complete fault-code report. Your registration helps identify the likely vehicle specification, while diagnostic identification may still be needed to confirm the ECU and software version. Your postcode lets us check mobile coverage and access.
Can I send my warning light photo on WhatsApp?
You can send a clear photo of the warning and any diagnostic report via WhatsApp. Include the full code, any suffix, your registration and whether the engine currently starts. A photo helps guide the initial assessment but cannot confirm the failed component on its own.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency callouts?
Yes. Our standard hours are Monday to Sunday, 8 AM to 8 PM. Emergency callouts are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, subject to location and availability. An additional emergency callout charge applies and is confirmed before dispatch.
